LOST is a condition that occurs when one loses their bearings in an unfamiliar location. The technical phrase for this situation is LOST.

Knowing how to get around in the world is your best bet for survival. And there are a few easy methods for doing so that can be useful in a pinch.

Navigating and Reading A Compass

Find The High Ground

Finding a high point in the surrounding area is most likely the simplest approach to see where you must go. Or at least where you should not wander.

If you can make your way to the top of a nearby hill or even climb a small tree, it will be much easier to orient yourself. When stated aloud, it may seem obvious, but if you’re lost and panicking, finding a view to measure your position is at least a starting point.

Use The Sun

The sun moves from relative east to relative west throughout the day, regardless of where you are on Earth. It’s not a perfect system, but it’s better than nothing.

However, if you are looking for an easy solution, there’s a simple technique to make this quicker: push a long pole into the ground so that it stands up on its own. Then make a mark in the dirt where the stick’s shadow is cast. Wait a few minutes and see where the shade has moved – it will usually move east.

Follow Water

Water is essential to human life and civilization. Follow the current if you can locate a river. If you’re not completely off the grid, there’s a good chance you’ll encounter other people somewhere along the way.

Even if you don’t immediately find your way back, you’ll at least have access to drinkable liquid if you get lost. You can fill a water bottle before setting out if you have one with you.

Bring A Compass

We aren’t going to claim to be professional navigators, but a compass and reading skills are all you need.

Even the most basic knowledge of the gadget (one side of the needle always points north) might be useful in a survival scenario. Of course, reading a compass is even more beneficial if you have a map to compare it to, but it’s still quite helpful without one.

The most significant advantage of a compass is that it will continue to function when your other technology fails, making it more dependable.
