The backyard studio is an easy, inexpensive, and do-it-yourself (DIY) way to expand your house to make room for your work, hobbies, and crafts.
It is small enough to be considered a shed in most municipalities and can thus be legally built in most backyards.
These DIY plans allow you to build a higher quality, more attractive alternative to the storage sheds found at the home improvement stores. By building it yourself, you can also customize its appearance to have the exact look you want.

The ‘Simple Living' design is these easiest and least expensive house to build on this list. The goal of this design is to provide an inexpensive option for those on a tighter budget.
Depending on the materials used, you can build this house for as little as $10,000!
This design has all the amenities and features that make up a great home, including a 7 foot sleeping loft, a storage loft, bathroom with a 36 inch shower, kitchen, and large family room, but is less expensive for those on a budget.

Tiny Living
The 'Tiny Living' design consists of a large family room with vaulted ceilings and large dormers on either side of the room.
The entryway is situated at the back of the trailer allowing for a spacious 7 foot sleeping loft at the front. Under the sleeping loft is the bathroom and the kitchen.
This house is available in 12', 16', and 20' lengths, all of which are comfortably yet easy to tow.

Tiny Retirement
The 'Tiny Retirement' design is a single level home perfect for those who would prefer to not climbing a ladder to go to bed.
It is unique in that its entryway is situated on the long side of the house, allowing for a bathroom to be located on one end of the house while still leaving room for a full size bed or pull-out couch on the other end.
The bathroom includes a 36 inch standing shower and a toilet, with a small storage loft located overhead. The total length of the house is 20 feet making it large enough to live comfortably yet small enough to easily tow.

Tiny Studio
The 'Tiny Studio' design incorporates a more modern, open layout.
The kitchen and dining area are on a raised platform on one end of the house. Under the platform there is a pull out bed that acts as seating when pushed in.
The stairs to the platform also pull out to reveal a large amount of additional storage. In front of the platform there is a large living area as well as a closet with additional shelving along the side.
On the other end of the house there is a bathroom which includes a toilet and 36 inch shower.
Finally, above the bathroom is a storage loft.
