Equipment

  • 1 Crockpot
  • 3 Coffee Filters
  • 2 empty water gallon containers *avoid filling these to the brim. Your Crock Pot only holds so much.

Ingredients

  • 2 liters untreated water River, stream, or lake water.

Avoid puddles, cesspools, and otherwise stagnant water with this process.

Instructions

  • Plan to purify your water right after a fresh Crockpot cook where your Crockpot is still hot.
  • Remove the contents of your pot and clean your pot. If you have a partner in this process, then you'll be able to filter the water while the Crockpot is getting prepped for water purification.
  • Contain your water in an easy to pour container that doesn't leak.
  • Fold your coffee filter twice and place it over the opening of the bottle.
  • Carefully pour your water into your other water gallon container.
  • Repeat two more times with a new coffee filter each time.
  • Set your Crockpot to the highest setting and immediately pour in your water.
  • Cover your Crockpot with the lid and wait 15 to 60 mins. Once your water reaches a boil, most pathogens have been killed and most debris has already been pre-filtered by your coffee filters.
